Case Study: Understanding Bipolar Disorder
The fundamental goal of Mental Health and Awareness Initiative (MAHI) is to raise awareness and to improve the quality of life for those afflicted with mental diseases, conditions, and disorders at the University of Alberta and beyond. As part of the educational initiative, “Understanding Bipolar Disorder” was a collaborative project between Design Fundamentals class and MAHI to present bipolar disorder to the general public in a series of posters. It was an interesting learning experience to work on a real project for all students.
Although this collaboration was supervised, students were encouraged to conduct independent research, explore various visual techniques and to run work-in-progress and final meetings with MAHI representatives. As a result, the awareness campaign was used for the Bipolar Symposium at the University of Alberta.
