Tomato [Fractured]
After creating a series of fractured and glitched works centered on environmental conservation, I wanted to shift toward something more immediate and observational. This piece focuses on tomatoes drawn from life, allowing me to study color, texture, and form in a closer way. I was especially interested in the challenge of using red on a black surface in a water-based medium, where volume and contrast become subtle and difficult to control.
Although the work may initially appear to be a simple portrait of tomatoes, it also reflects on the modern food supply. I began thinking about how not every tomato is grown equally anymore—how genetic modification and industrial farming have altered something once known for its natural sweetness and richness. I represent this idea by portraying a classical tomato gradually moving through a visual “glitch,” suggesting the transformation of food through modern processes.
