"Inflated" Series
In the Inflated series, I repurpose commercial cardboard boxes as canvases to explore our deep-rooted connection to the environment, with a focus on endangered species. Each piece juxtaposes realistic depictions of these threatened creatures with their balloon counterparts, highlighting the environmental hazards posed by plastic waste.
One artwork features the regal fritillary butterfly (Speyeria idalia), a species proposed for endangered status due to habitat loss. The second piece showcases a sea turtle alongside its balloon version, underscoring the dangers marine animals face from plastic debris. Despite the serious theme, both artworks show a cheerful, almost childlike tone, inviting viewers to reflect on our inseparable bond with nature and encouraging a re-examination of our environmental impact.
